Summary:
Two middle-class Englishwomen leave behind their staid lives and passionless marriages to stay for a month at a medieval Italian villa which they share with an austere dowager and a beautiful, bored socialite. At first the women are wary of each other but among the idyllic surroundings they learn to live and love again.
