Subject Correspondence file constitutes central file of Commissioner General of Immigration, Washington, D.C. Documents flow of information between this office and various immigration posts throughout country (especially San Francisco, Seattle, New York and El Paso). Correspondence reports on all facets of the administration of American immigration law. In addition to Mexican, some documents highlight efforts of European, Middle Eastern, Chinese and Japanese immigrants to cross Mexican border into U.S. Documentation covers several areas of interest: U.S.-Mexican immigration negotiations; correspondence on activities of Mexican Border District Office in El Paso; issue of admission of Mexican peon labor; reports of Border Officers on Mexican Civil War and resulting refugee/immigration problems, smuggling and promulgation and implementation of immigration laws.
