Summary:
Shuji and his wife Tomoko have been together for over forty years. Now a problem arises. Their landlady, Tomiko, asks Shuji to go to South Korea. He is to meet the family of a friend named Kanayama, born in Korea but drafted along with Shuji into the kamikaze corps. Shuji survived, Kanayama did not, and now he must return some keepsakes to the family. He agrees to go because he has something to offer as well, Kanayama's last message, to the family and also to Tomoko, because she was his fiance when he died.
