Summary:

Katia Shannon, a young filmmaker from Montréal, finds out that she has type 1 diabetes at the age of 15. The film chronicles a five-year journey as she and her father/filmmaker Dan Shannon turn the lens on herself and others with the disease, which was delcared a worldwide epidemic by the UN and the World Health Organization in 2007. Sweet 16 offers a fresh perspective on a silent killer and the hope for a cure, with a focus on teen issues of body image and peer pressure.
