Students write about they think is going on in American schools today, their own classroom experiences, what is going well and how things might be different. Essays include aq story by a student who arrives from China and experiences challenges and successes in the transition to a Michigan public school; vignettes inspired by Sherman Alexie's and James Baldwin's works; and a series of warm and funny letters where students remember and thank their very best teachers. Teachers, parents, and activists lean what the classroom looks like from the other side of the desk.
