Summary:
A doctor, a moderate activist for India's independence, is arrested on his wedding day and sent to the notorious Kaala Paani prison at Port Blair. There he meets freedom fighters from various backgrounds, all under the rule of a sadistic jail warden. A benevolent British physician secures his release just as the situation in the prison takes an ugly turn.
