Summary:
"A despotic twelfth century Italian prince, Prospero, is a disciple of Satan. Learning that the Red Death has appeared in one of his villages he orders it to be razed, first kidnapping a beautiful young villager, Francesca, her father Ludovico and her sweetheart Gino. The men are incarcerated but Francesca he hopes to convert, thus arousing the jealousy of his mistress Juliana. During a fight in hall Ludovico is impaled and Gino is sent back to the village. Prospero prepares a court masque promising Satan's protection from the Red Death. Juliana believing that only self-sacrifice will unite her with Prospero is destroyed in a Satanic ritual. The masque begins with Death present disguised in red. Gino arrives to rescue Francesca as Death claims his last partner, Prospero"--Film Index International.
