Summary:
The story follows a newlywed couple on the barge "L'Atalante" as they make toward Paris with an old seaman and a boy as crew. The bride longs to experience the excitement of the city, but circumstances lead to quarrels and separation when it's time for the barge to move on to Le Havre.
