Summary:
The third of Bergman's religious trilogy, centering on a love/hate relationship between two sisters. In a remote village where the language is incomprehensible, and the atmosphere oppressive, their communication deteriorates to sign language with the townspeople. While one sister slowly slips into death, the other engages a local barman in a frenzied, sexual encounter.
