Summary:
Fictional account of the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the founding of the Ku Klux Klan (as a means of suppressing lawless rampaging by blacks). The plot concerns the interconnections between two influential families, one southern, one northern. This work, one of the first to realize film's possibilities as an art form, provoked considerable protest because of its extreme racial bias.
