Summary:
The tragic tale of the 17-year old Effie who marries the much older Baron von Instetten and moves into his isolated Baltic estate. Six years later, the Baron sees letters that convince him the lonely Effi has had an affair with Major Crampas and he feels obliged to challenge Crampas to a duel and banish Effi from the house.
