Summary:
Bhola, a ten year-old boy and his younger sister, Belu, are orphans and destitute. Kamala Chachi, an abusing distant relative, forces the children to beg for money on the streets. Their only friend is John, a neighboring bootlegger, who convinces the children to give up begging and earn money by shining shoes. But problems arise when John is arrested.
