Miriam and her chronic-gambler husband, Hugh are at the end of their marriage. Barbara, the daughter of the couple, hopes to bring her parents back together again, a prospect made more difficult when Miriams' old flame, Victor, now a millionaire, arrives in town. Hugh tries to win back his soon-to-be ex-wife, but to no avail. Ultimately, Miriam must choose between the financially solvent Victor and the impishly irresponisible Hugh.
