Summary:
"Friedl Dicker-Brandeis (1989-1944) was one of the most important students of the Bauhaus. She was a painter, art teacher, and politically active poster artist. Initially, she specialized in textile and graphic design, and later she worked as an interior designer. Her paintings reflect her profound study of the classical avant-garde. This publication traces in detail the wide-ranging creative achievements of an artist who suffered great political persecution. The lavishly illustrated volume positions Dicker-Brandeis's work within the framework of Classic Modernism and shows how versatile she was as an artist. Until the end, she tried to encourage children in the ghetto of Theresienstadt to draw, offering secret art lessons, for which the Nazi regime harshly persecuted her. Contributors to this book describe the particular characteristics of her artistic work, and they also delve into the art therapy techniques she pioneered and developed." -- (Amazon.com viewed July 7, 2022).
