Filmmaker Mahamat-Saleh Haroun presents well-known West African Griot, musician, and actor Sotigui KouyateÌ, through travels and interviews with KouyateÌ, his family and friends, both in his adopted home of France and his childhood home in West Africa. The film follows Kouyate's career, starting from the childhood experience of his favorite entertainments being replaced by French settlers' formal theatre, through early acting work in Burkina Faso, to Kouyate's eventual arrival in French theatre. Moving with KouyateÌ through a number of very different cultures, the film demonstrates KouyateÌ's long-standing efforts to share the indigenous arts and heritage of West Africa, including his founding of "The Griot's voice" acting company in France and the Mandeka Theatre in Bamako, Mali. 600 10 $a KouyateÌ, Sotigui. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99046045 650 0 $a Actors $z Bamako $z Bamako $v Biography. 650 0 $a Actors $z Burkina Faso $v Biography. 650 0 $a Actors $z Africa, West $v Biography. 650 0 $a Griots $v Biography. 655 7 $a Biographical films. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2011026089 655 7 $a Documentary films. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2011026205 655 7 $a Biographies. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026049 700 1 $a Haroun, Mahamat Saleh. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2002046332 700 1 $a Gilaizeau, Claude. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2001058028 700 1 $a Maigne, Sylvie. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2009023445 700 1 $a KouyateÌ, Sotigui. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99046045 700 1 $a Brook, Peter, $d 1925- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2005072496 700 1 $a Verhoeven, Muriel. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2009102681 700 1 $a CarrieÌre, Jean-Claude. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n90653829 710 2 $a Productions de la lanterne. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2001058039 710 2 $a Canal Cholet (Firm) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2009051447 710 2 $a ArtMattan Productions. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2001013889 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231021015501.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=2E2A2394065511E8AD8CF06897128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
