The blocks turned out to be Rachel's finest illustrative work, but Elek went into receivership and tragically [the engravings] were never published. The images were exhibited for the first time in 1997, from proofs that Rachel had taken after engraving the blocks. Shortly afterwards the blocks themselves came to light, when it was realised that the non-appearance of the engravings had been a double tragedy, for on the reverse of the blocks were parts of other much larger engravings done by Rachel before the war. Due to the wartime shortage of boxwood she had sawn the blocks down to less than half size. Lost and Found will show all sixteen of the blocks for The Mill on the Floss for the first time, as well as reconstructing the larger palimpsest images on the reverse of the blocks. -- Publisher's description. 500 $a Library copy is number 153. $5 IaU 500 $a This edition of 225 copies is set in 14-point Van Dijck at Gloucester Typesetting, & printed at Whittington on Zerkall mould-made papers. 40 copies are half-bound in Oasis leather & contain a set of proofs of the engravings for The Mill on the Floss -- Colophon. 600 10 $a Reckitt, Rachel $x Criticism and interpretation. 600 10 $a Reckitt, Rachel $x Art collections. 650 0 $a Women wood-engravers $z Great Britain. 600 10 $a Eliot, George, $d 1819-1880. $t Mill on the Floss $v Illustrations. 650 0 $a Wood-engraving, English $y 20th century $v Specimens. 710 2 $a Whittington Press, $e printer. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82222348 710 2 $a Gloucester Typesetting, $e typographer. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr2004009273 700 1 $a Macgregor, Miriam. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82158813 700 1 $a Eliot, George, $d 1819-1880. $t Mill on the Floss. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00002949 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180105054340.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=8DC4EA6EF1E711E78A18091E97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
