Summary:
The story takes place in 1897. A rickshaw-man becomes acquainted with an army general's family. When the general suddenly passes away, the rickshaw man helps out the general's wife and son. Time passes, and finally the man cannot help expressing his true feeling of love for the widow. He feels ashamed of his own confession and slowly drinks himself to death.
