Notes:
"Etched Out is the ... story of a close-knit, Welsh-speaking community evicted from their homes in 1940 so that the land, on which their farms had survived for over 400 years, could be turned into an army firing range. I have recounted their story, & overprinted the names of fifty of the farms on a pull-out mezzotint, depicting people who lived on or near the Epynt ... My verbal & visual evocations are enclosed in paper, custom-made by Maureen Richardson, using the the red earth of Epynt. Six landscapes using etching & mezzotint are interleaved with handmade Unryu tissue. I printed the images on Somerset mouldmade paper, along with the text, set at Gwasg Gregynog, in 14 point Baskerville typeface"--Colophon. Library has copy no. 17. IaU The edition is limited to 40 copies, enclosed in book-form box ... The box opens out to a triptych in which the text is presented as a booklet; folded concertina lie in recess in box lides; the center tray hold the 6 landscapes. Title from box.
