A novel on a Confederate soldier and his wife, based on their real-life correspondence. Willy and Martha Ann were married in Georgia on the day war broke out. Willy gives accounts of the fighting while she, now a mother, describes the terror of roaming soldiery, which she survives thanks to freed slaves.
