Focusing the camera on NeÌnette throughout the entire film, Philibert captures her emotions and reactions to zoo visitors throughout the day. Children, students, artists, and zookeepers speculate as to what NeÌnette is thinking and feeling, recounting their own experiences while reflecting on her captivity. Born in Borneo in 1969, NeÌnette has outlived three mates and has raised four children. She is seen caring for her now-adult son, climbing, playing, grooming, and eating her favorite foods--lettuce and yogurt. Because orangutans make few vocalizations and oral expressions, unlike other apes like gibbons and chimpanzees, viewers are left to wonder about the intelligence and creativity of NeÌnette, one of the oldest orangutans in captivity. 520 $a Animals and more animals -- Director Nicolas Philibert takes an exclusive look inside the zoological exhibits of the MuseÌum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, focusing on restoration processes. Opened in the 19th century but closed in 1965, experts prepare for its reopening in 1994. These preparations include dusting, restuffing, cleaning, painting, and replacing animals to be put on exhibit. Museum officials decide to arrange the animals by geographic location instead of by genus and family, providing a more holistic glimpse into the animals' natural environment. In particular, Philibert follows a group of restorators working on the African animals exhibit, assessing the quality of specimens including baboons (Papio), orangutans (Pongo), and gorillas (Gorilla). These primates are exhibited alongside birds, insects, and other mammals, evoking life in the African savannahs and forests. For the grand reopening, the museum configures a processional of African animals to showcase their best specimens. 500 $a Titles from disc labels. 500 $a DVD release date: May. 24, 2011. 500 $a The films were originally released in 2010 and 1994. 500 $a Special features: "Night falls on the Menagerie," directed by Nicolas Philibert (2010, 11 min.) ; After the MeÌnagerie du Jardin des Plantes closes for the day, its animals prepare for sleep ; theatrical trailer ; stills gallery. 546 $a French dialogue; English subtitles. 505 0 $a NeÌnette / a film by Nicolas Philibert ; producer SergeLalou ; directed by Nicolas Philibert -- Animals and more animals / a film by Nicolas Philibert produced by Les Films D'Ici [and others] ; directed by Nicolas Philibert. 508 $a NeÌnette: music, Philippe Hersant ; editors, Nicolas Philibert, LeÌa Masson ; cinematography, Nicolas Philibert & Katell Djian. 508 $a Animals and more animals: cinematography, Frederic Labourasse, Nicolas Philibert ; editor, Guy Lecorne ; original music, Philippe Hersant. 610 20 $a MeÌnagerie du Jardin des Plantes (Paris, France) 610 20 $a MuseÌum national d'histoire naturelle (France) 610 27 $a MeÌnagerie du Jardin des Plantes (Paris, France) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01927646 610 27 $a MuseÌum national d'histoire naturelle (France) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00547434 650 0 $a NeÌnette (Orangutan) 650 0 $a Orangutans $x Behavior. 650 0 $a Natural history museums $z France. 650 0 $a Bornean orangutan. 650 7 $a Bornean orangutan. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01047182 650 7 $a Natural history museums. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01034350 650 7 $a Orangutans $x Behavior. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01047183 651 7 $a France. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204289 655 2 $a Documentaries and Factual Films $0 (DNLM)D019499 655 7 $a French language films. $2 local 655 7 $a Documentary films. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01710390 655 7 $a Documentary films. $2 lcgft 710 2 $a Films d'ici (Firm), $e production company. 710 2 $a Kino International Corporation, $e distributor. 700 1 $a Lalou, Serge, $e producer. 700 1 $a Philibert, Nicolas, $e cinematographer. $e editor of moving image work, $e cinematographer. 700 1 $a Masson, LeÌa, $e editor of moving image work. 700 1 $a Dijan, Katell, $e cinematographer. 700 1 $a Labourasse, Frederic, $e cinematographer. 700 1 $a Lecorne, Guy, $e editor of moving image work. 700 1 $a Hersant, Philippe, $e composer. 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117020758.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=F5CE0EB43D8C11EE8AE814B62EECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
