Drawing on dozens of interviews with women in the state of Wyoming who were incarcerated or on parole, the authors provide an in-depth examination of women's perceptions of their lives before, during, and after imprisonment. Considering cultural mores specific to the rural West, the authors identify the forces that consistently trap women in cycles of crime and violence in these regions: felony-related discrimination, the geographic isolation that traps women in abusive relationships, and cultural stigmas surrounding addiction, poverty, and precarious interpersonal relationships. Following incarceration, women in these areas face additional, region-specific obstacles as they attempt to reintegrate into society, including limited social services, significant gender wage gaps, and even severe weather conditions that restrict travel. The book ultimately concludes with new, evidence-based recommendations for addressing the challenges these women face. 650 0 $a Women ex-convicts $z West (U.S.) $x Social conditions. 650 0 $a Women prisoners $x Deinstitutionalization $z West (U.S.) 650 0 $a Female offenders $x Rehabilitation $z West (U.S.) 651 0 $a West (U.S.) $x Rural conditions. 650 7 $a Female offenders $x Rehabilitation. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00922636 650 7 $a Rural conditions. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01101474 651 7 $a West United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01243255 650 7 $a Weibliche Gefangene $2 gnd 651 7 $a USA $x Weststaaten $2 gnd 941 $a 2 952 $l UUAX975 $d 20210217010954.0 952 $l UQAX771 $d 20200319010340.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=E9D27C6669A611EAAA416F0A97128E48 994 $a C0 $b JIDInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
