Summary:
From the anti-war films that followed World War I to the morale-boosting films of World War II, Hollywood has both reflected and influenced America's attitudes toward war. This program looks at how directors recreated the soldier's experience. Though documentary footage from the battlegrounds of World War II lent the combat film reality, the war Hollywood portrayed developed into myth. By the Vietnam era, American movies began to challenge this view as a new generation went to war.
