Summary:
In 1920's China, a female college student agrees to become the fourth wife of a wealthy nobleman. Each night, the master raises a red lantern outside the house of the wife he wishes to spend the night with. The wives have little to do but compete for their husband's favor, which draws them into a fierce battle.
