Grady Service, a detective for the Department of Natural Resources in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for three decades, tries to deal with the changes happening on the job and in his personal life, including a centuries-old mystery, the looting of a Native American archaeological site, a dangerous forest fire, a skittish new partner, and a deepening relationship with his girlfriend.
