Summary:
In Common Life in the Middle Ages (program 21): famine, disease, and short life expectancies were the conditions that shaped medieval beliefs. In Cities and Cathedrals of the Middle Ages (program 22): the great churches embodied the material and spiritual ambitions of the age. In The Late Middle Ages (program 23): two hundred years of war and plague debilitated Europe. In The National Monarchies (program 24): a new urban middle class emerged, while dynastic marriages established centralized monarchies.
