Summary:
One evening a strange series of events takes place. A clerk is degraded, a lost immigrant is violently attacked, a magician makes a terrible mistake. The following day, the signs of chaos takes hold as madness grips a board of directors and the city itself is strangled by a horrendous traffic jam. In the midst of the mayhem, one man stands out - Karl, who is covered from head to toe in soot from the store he just tried to burn down for the insurance money. The new millennium is blamed for casting such a vast mental breakdown and Karl gradually realizes just how difficult it is to be human.
