The book argues that within the religiously plural setting of the Dutch Republic church officials used a variety of means to establish a Reformed identity in their communities. As such, the book explores the topics of church orders, elders and deacons, intra-confessional and inter-confessional conflicts, and Sabbath observance as local means by which small, rural communities negotiated and experienced their religious lives. In exploring rural Dutch Reformed congregations, the book examines the complicated relationships between theology and practice and 'lay' and 'elite' religion and highlights challenges rural churches faced. As they faced these issues, Dieleman demonstrates that local congregations exercised agency within their lived religious experiences as they sought unique ways to navigate their own Reformed identity within their small, rural communities." -- $c Publisher, page four of cover. 610 20 $a Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk $x History $y 16th century. 610 20 $a Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk $x History $x History $y 16th century. 610 27 $a Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk $2 fast 650 0 $a Reformed Church $z Netherlands $x History $y 16th century. 650 0 $a Rural churches $z Netherlands $x History $y 16th century. 650 7 $a Early modern history: c 1450/1500 to c 1700. $2 bicssc 650 7 $a Social and cultural history. $2 bicssc 650 7 $a HISTORY / Modern / 16th Century. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a RELIGION / Christian Theology / History. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a RELIGION / Christian Church / History. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a Reformed Church $2 fast 650 7 $a Rural churches $2 fast 651 7 $a Netherlands $2 fast 650 7 $a Social and cultural history. $2 thema 650 7 $a Christian Churches, denominations, groups. $2 thema 648 7 $a 1500-1599 $2 fast 653 $a History, Art History, and Archaeology 653 $a HIS 653 $a Dutch and The Netherlands 653 $a DUTCH NL 653 $a Early Modern Studies 653 $a EARLY MOD 653 $a Religion and Theology 653 $a REL & THEOL 653 $a Low Countries, Reformation, Piety, Identity, Consistories 655 7 $a History $2 fast 655 7 $a Informational works. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Documents d'information. $2 rvmgf 776 0 $z 9789048550777 856 4 $3 Image $u http://www.booksonix.com/aup/9789463727624_web.jpg 856 4 $3 Image $u https://www.booksonix.com/aup/9789463727624_web.jpg 941 $a 1 952 $l OUAX845 $d 20240816052324.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=FA81104A5B9611EFABE9BE7952ECA4DB 994 $a 92 $b IOTInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
