In the dwelling-house of a disused factory a girl finds a half-decayed corpse. It is the former operator of the plant, Theodor Reifenrath, as Kriminalhauptkommissarin Pia Sander and her colleagues from the K11 notice. Under a dog kennel, they make a gruesome discovery: In addition to an almost starving dog human bones are scattered and forensics brings more and more terrible details to light. Reifenrath lived in seclusion since his wife Rita took his own life twenty years earlier. In the village nobody can believe that he was a serial killer. A woman disappears and Pia realizes that nothing is as it seems. Will she be able to solve the puzzle in time and stop the beast before more people die.
