As Nazi soldiers march through Copenhagen, Annemarie and her friend Ellen reminisce about the way things were before the world went to war. Being Jewish, they are soon forced to move, by orders of the German army. Ellen moves in with the Johansen family and they pretend that she is part of their family in order to protect her.
