Based on the 1777 St. Matthew passion (H 790), the music is primarily by C.P.E. Bach, with the exception of three choruses which may have been written by C.P.E. Bach, and four chorales by J.S. Bach (BWV 244/25, 153/5, 244/3, 244/54); first performed during Lent 1785.
