So-called 'honour killings' have become an issue of concern for the international community. In Turkey, in particular, the practice still exists despite the adoption of the relevant human rights instruments. This book evaluates how effective current international human rights law, and in particular the recent Istanbul Convention, have been in eradicating so called 'honour killings' on Turkey. The book argues that the improvement of the status of women in Turkey in accordance with gender equality as well as the application of the principle of state due diligence, both requirements of the Istanbul Convention and international human rights law, are fundamental means towards eradicating the killing women in the name of 'honour'. The study looks at the application of such standards as well as the current obstacles using the feminist approaches, in particular the intersectionality approach. Through such lens, the study discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the Turkish Constitution, Turkish Civil Code, Turkish Penal Code and Law to Protect Family and Prevent VAW and questions the judicial approach to the implementation of the women's right to life. It identifies the lacunae in the Turkish legislation that allow inadequate legal protection for women and the inconsistency of the judicial approach to the definition of the so-called honour killings in the judgements. The study then recommends some concrete amendments to the relevant legal provisions in order to better reflect the international framework and the feminist approaches"-- $c Provided by publisher. 650 0 $a Honor killings $x Law and legislation $z Turkey. 650 0 $a Women $x Crimes against $z Turkey. 650 0 $a Women $x Legal status, laws, etc. $z Turkey. 650 0 $a International law and human rights $z Turkey. 650 7 $a Honor killings $x Law and legislation. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01909667 650 7 $a International law and human rights. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01894145 650 7 $a Women $x Crimes against. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01176618 650 7 $a Women $x Legal status, laws, etc. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01176824 651 7 $a Turkey. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01208963 776 08 $i Online version: $a GuÂnesʹ, Aysʹe. $t International human rights law and crimes against women in Turkey $d Milton Park, Abingdon, Oxon ; New York, NY : Routledge, 2020. $z 9781003092001 $w (DLC) 2020037271 830 0 $a Routledge research in human rights law. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231021023957.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=30033A8886E611EB80D4A9DB35ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
