Summary:
"This book is an historical fiction about an Iowa farm boy's experience in two theaters of World War II: the Asiatic-Pacific and the European-African-Middle Eastern. The story follows Pfc. Virgil Nelson from his induction at Camp Dodge in Des Moines to his basic training at Camp Roberts in northern California to his first assignment with an anti-aircraft outfit on Adak Island in the Aleutian Campaign. Returning home in the early part of 1944, he is transferred into the 346th Infantry Regiment, 87th Infantry Division and ships with them to Europe later that year. After fighting in the Saar Valley in France for only a couple of weeks, the entire division is rushed to Belgium where they are called upon, along with other divisions under General Patton's command, to block the German advance in the Ardennes Offensive, also known as the Battle of the Bulge. Follow Virgil's journey of duty, danger, and sacrifice as he makes his way through the Aleutians and the Bulge, and eventually, to The Road to Jenneville." from the back cover.
