From atop the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River at Chief Wapahasha's village, Night Sun observes 1200 painted warriors of the Dakotas and Winnebago--blood-curdling war cries fill the air, the ground quakes under the thundering hooves of the war ponies as they advance upon government troops. A massacre seems imminent.
