Summary:
A collection of "Shinpan utazaimon" acts performed at Kokuritsu Bunraku Gekijō, Kokuritsu Gekijō, and Tōkyō Mitsukoshi Gekijō. One of the most popular "sewamono" or contemporary setting play repertoires by Chikamatsu Hanji tells a story of unacceptable love between Osome, a daughter of an oil merchant, and Hisamatsu, the apprentice. The act of "Nozakimura" is most well known and also performed as Kabuki. The act of "Nagamachi" was revived in 1971 and now the play can be performed virtually in its entirety as seen on this DVD set.
