Summary:
This documentary chronicles the history of the Mississippi Voter Registration Project from 1961 through the 1964 Democratic National Convention. Because there were no black voters in Mississippi in 1961, the organizers of the voter project created their own party, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and recruited mostly white students to come to Mississippi to join in their cause. The party organized a delegation and attended the 1964 Democratic National Convention among much controversy. The film depicts this story with archival film footage and interviews with some of the original participants.
