Summary:
This Hamlet remains one of the least known partly because the title role is played by a woman and the plot also borrows from Danish legends and a German play. For reasons of state the heiress to the throne has been brought up as a boy, and she has conceived a hopeless passion for Horatio. "Asta Nielsen, born in Denmark in 1881, was the first diva of European silent film. In the still incomplete Die Filmprimadonna she plays the role of a star fighting for increased influence on the entire production process."--Container.
