Summary:

Cash and Sheriff Wheaton make for a strange partnership. He pulled her from her mother's wrecked car when she was three and has kept an eye out for her ever since. Cash navigated through a succession of white foster homes, and at thirteen was working on farms. She's tough as nails and makes her living driving trucks. It's a rough place to live -- Fargo-Moorhead in the early 1970s.
