520 $a "During World War II, Jewish communities all across Europe were in danger from Nazi Germany and their collaborators. A minority of non-Jewish people came forward to help their Jewish friends, neighbours and often, even strangers. At Great Risk is an anthology that features three memoirs of child Holocaust survivors who were saved by upstanding citizens. In France, Eva Lang and two of her sisters are sheltered through the network OSE (Oeuvre de secours aux enfants; Children's Relief Agency); in Slovakia, a Lutheran pastor protects David Korn and his brother in an orphanage; and in Mielnica, a small town in Poland (now part of Ukraine), a farmer hides Fishel Goldig and his family in a potato cellar. After the war, the rescuers involved in helping Eva, David and Fishel survive were all awarded the honour of Righteous Among the Nations, a title bestowed by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial and museum in Israel. Eva, Fishel and David kept in touch with their rescuers, expressing their gratitude for their help in surviving the war. At Great Risk also showcases twelve short stories of survival from the Azrieli Foundation's previously published collection, to help demonstrate the diversity of risk and rescue during the Holocaust."-- $c Provided by publisher.
