520    $a The purpose of this study was to discover the impact of teaching balanced memorization on basic addition fact fluency in a third grade classroom. This study was conducted in a suburban elementary school in a classroom containing 24 students. It used a quasi-experimental, pretest/posttest control group research technique. Throughout this action research project students spent five days each week working on a specific addition strategy. Students then transferred these strategies to solve basic addition facts. Results indicated an improvement in all students' basic fact fluency.
