We argue that most can be reduced to the principles of fairness and equality, although they are developed and expressed quite differently in the two cultures. In the modern era there has been a noticeable shift in both in favouring equality over fairness. In ancient and modern times there is greater variation regarding justice within each culture than there is between them. This overlap, and arguably in some ways convergence, provides the basis for restructuring Sino-American relations along lines that could prove acceptable to leaders and peoples of both countries. We extend our argument to international order and ask how it could be made more effective and consensual. Building on our principles of justice we identify some of the pathways that would lead to a more peaceful world, one in which the weak and poor as well as the rich and powerful would feel included and rewarded"-- $c Provided by publisher. 650 0 $a Justice $v Cross-cultural studies. 650 0 $a Hegemony $z United States. 650 0 $a Confucianism and state $z China. 651 0 $a United States $x Foreign relations $z China. 651 0 $a China $x Foreign relations $z United States. 650 0 $a Confucianism and state. 650 6 $a Justice $v Etudes transculturelles. 650 6 $a Hegemonie $z Etats-Unis. 650 6 $a Confucianisme et Etat. 651 6 $a Etats-Unis $x Relations exterieures $z Chine. 651 6 $a Chine $x Relations exterieures $z Etats-Unis. 650 7 $a Confucianism and state. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00875083 650 7 $a Diplomatic relations. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01907412 650 7 $a Hegemony. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01202283 650 7 $a Justice. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00985122 651 7 $a China. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01206073 651 7 $a United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204155 655 7 $a Cross-cultural studies. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01423769 776 08 $i Online version: $a Lebow, Richard Ned. $t Justice, East and West, and international order $b First Edition. $d New York : Oxford University Press, [2022] $z 9780197598412 $w (DLC) 2022000229 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20230317010851.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=06940FA0C48911EDAC2163E35EECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
