The Omaha people look to the Sacred Pole as a symbol of tribal unity and as their single most important religious object. The Sacred Pole was returned to them in July 1989 and in September 1990, the remaining 280 items in the Peabody Museum's Omaha collection were returned to the Omaha tribe. The film includes commentary by Doran Morris, Omaha Tribal Chairman, Dennis Hastings, tribal historian, and by Dr. Ian Brown and Dr. C. C.
