Summary:
Five years after the Civil War, Captain Kidd moves from town to town as a storyteller. In Texas, he crosses paths with Johanna, a ten-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier. She is being returned to her biological aunt and uncle against her will. Kidd agrees to deliver the child where the law says she belongs. As they travel hundreds of miles, the two will face tremendous challenges of both human and natural forces as they search for a place that either can call home.
"Tom Hanks gets the best lines in News of the World... He does them justice, as always, but his co-star, an extraordinary 12-year-old named Helena Zengel, gets the best silences. They give the film its dimension of mystery."--The Wall Street Journal.
"Hanks' first Western is a winner, rich with relevant themes and ideas."--Newsday.
"Kidd taps into all the qualities that make Hanks one of the world's most popular actors: pathos, empathy, star quarterback charisma and a lesser-seen side - grit."--New York Post.
