Tells the story of a gorilla named Ivan, who was brought to America as a baby to serve as an attraction to lure customers to a mall. Over time , people grew concerned about his treatment and eventually protested until, at the age of twenty-seven, he was moved to a zoo where he could spend time outdoors with other gorillas. The back matter includes in-depth information about Ivan's life and experiences, a list of further resources, and a note from Ivan's main keeper at the zoo where he lived.
