Summary:
A restoration of Carl Th. Dreyer's first feature film as director, addressing the crucial conflict between the strict moral codes of society and individual morals. The judge in a Danish town sees his illegitimate daughter facing a trial for the murder of her newborn child. When she is found guilty and sentenced to death, he asks for a pardon, but when it isn't granted he decides to free her and get her out of the country at all costs.
