Molly Murphy, an Irish immigrant in turn-of-the-century New York, is contemplating giving up her work as a private investigator, but she agrees to help when NYPD captain Daniel Sullivan, incarcerated in the Tombs on a charge of taking bribes, begs for her help in clearing his name.
