Summary:
(Producer) This video, narrated by ABC News correspondent, Cokie Roberts, presents a balanced view of genetic testing, and neither recommends nor discourages its use. The video will help answer women's questions about the complex and profound issues of genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancers, including how it is done, what the results mean, and what effects the results may have on them and their families. Women want and need to know more about genetic testing for cancer risk, and health care professionals must be able to provide counsel to their patients. A companion brochure and fact sheet have also been provided to help facilitate the educational process. The materials are not intended to replace a genetic counseling session with a qualified health care professional, but rather to inform consumers about a host of critical issues to consider before making a decision about genetic testing.
