Little Bento de Espinosa is considered the greatest prodigy of the Portuguese community in Amsterdam, but the episode plants the seed of doubt in him: What if the Bible is really wrong? The suspicion will launch Bento on the greatest intellectual quest ever. Who really wrote the sacred texts? What is the truth about God? What is nature after all? But this is a forbidden quest and the young Portuguese Jew soon discovers that he will have to pay a terrible price for his questions.
