"Ritusamhara or The Six Seasons is a classic of Sanskrit literature, written by Kalidasa some 1500 years ago. This breathtaking poem sings the glory of six seasons -- grīṣma (summer), varṣā/pāvas (monsoon/rains), śarat (autumn), hemanta (frost), śiśiri (winter), and vasanta (spring) and the changing rhythms of nature and life in each season. As the world faces biodiversity loss at an unprecedented scale, poetry with a strong ecological content has started to take the centre stage of contemporary poetic discourse. In Ritusamhara, Kalidasa brings together ecological with sensual by making reference to the changing seasons and how passionate love is rekindled with the arrival of each new season." -- page 2 of cover
