Human security aims to provide a bottom-up and localised perspective and set of priorities to address insecurity. Despite this, the mobilisation of the human security discourse is an underexplored area of research. The book is divided into three sections. The first section outlines the importance of stabilization as an emerging area of peacekeeping practice and outlines the analytical framework of human security to be used in the research. The second section applies the analytical framework to three case studies: the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA); the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA); and the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The case studies explore five facets of human security: where the mission has sought to carry out its activities in line with the human rights and the rule of law; where space is provided to identify the vital core; where vulnerabilities are identified and building resilience has been attempted; what aspects of protection are focused on by the mission; and if individuals are empowered to act on their own behalf and implement solutions to security threats. The third section expounds the incompatibility of the two competing sides of stabilization and draws wider conclusions on how best to utilise the human security concept. The book will be a valuable resource for academics, policymakers and practitioners working on UN peacekeeping generally, and those specifically looking at stabilization, from international relations, international law, peace and conflict studies, security studies and human rights"-- $c Provided by publisher. 610 20 $a United Nations $x Peacekeeping forces. 610 20 $a United Nations $x Stability operations. $x Stability operations. 610 27 $a United Nations. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00530351 650 0 $a Nation-building. 650 0 $a Peacekeeping forces (International law) 650 0 $a Human security. 650 7 $a Armed Forces $x Stability operations. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01982153 650 7 $a Human security. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01749591 650 7 $a Nation-building. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01737474 650 7 $a Peacekeeping forces. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01055909 650 7 $a Peacekeeping forces (International law) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01986532 776 08 $i Online version: $a Gilder, Alexander. $t Stabilization and human security in UN peace operations $d Abingdon, Oxon ; New York, NY : Routledge, 2022 $z 9781003131199 $w (DLC) 2021030173 830 0 $a Routledge research in the law of armed conflict. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231021021923.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=BDEE6498A5B811ECBC4A196C2DECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
