While artists have always in part had a reputation for living outside societal norms, it was here that such a way of life, unconventional, free-spirited, precarious, yet filled with idealism, was first codified and romanticized. The concept of Bohemia quickly achieved an international currency, and after the Second World War it emerged in many different places around the world. 'Bohemia: History of an Idea, 1950-2000' looks at the differences and the continuities in a variety of these scenes and subcultures. It concludes at the end of the twenty-first century, when commodity culture began to erode a way of life predicated on its refusal. The bohemian idea nevertheless still offers an alternative to conformity, and for that reason still exerts a fascination. Even from out of the past, it still beckons with ways of living that continue to galvanize and inspire. Published to accompany a major exhibition at the Kunsthalle Praha, this book includes discussion of important works by a diverse range of artists, including Stan Douglas, Ed van der Elsken, Nan Goldin, Tomislav Gotovac, Peter Hujar, Libuse Jarcovjakova, Alice Neel, Wolfgang Tillmans, Zhang Huan, John Deakin, David Wojnarowicz, Robert Frank, Alfred Leslie, William Gedney, among many others. This publication accompanies the exhibition 'Bohemia: History of an Idea, 1950-2000', which examines the historical persistence of the idea of Bohemia, and explores the diversity of expressions in various cities in Europe, North America, and Asia"-- $c Publisher's description. 650 0 $a Bohemianism $x History $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Bohemianism $x History $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Bohemianism $x History $y 20th century $v Pictorial works. 650 0 $a Bohemianism in art. 650 0 $a Subculture $x History $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art and society $x History $y 20th century $v Pictorial works. 650 0 $a Artists $x History $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art, Modern $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Documentary photography $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Photography, Artistic $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Subculture $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art and society $y 20th century $v Pictorial works. 650 0 $a Artists $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 6 $a Vie de boheme $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $x Histoire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $y 20e siecle. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 650 6 $a Vie de boheme $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $x Histoire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Vie de boheme $0 (CaQQLa)201-0377738 $x Histoire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $v Ouvrages illustres. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0377738 650 6 $a Subculture $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0373677 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Art et societe $0 (CaQQLa)201-0377738 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0373677 $v Ouvrages illustres. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0377738 650 6 $a Artistes $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0373677 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Art $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0001314 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Photographie documentaire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Photographie artistique $y 20e siecle. $0 (CaQQLa)000278114 650 6 $a Vie de boheme dans l'art. $0 (CaQQLa)000293750 650 6 $a Subculture $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $x Histoire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Art et societe $0 (CaQQLa)201-0377738 $x Histoire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $v Ouvrages illustres. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0377738 650 6 $a Artistes $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $x Histoire $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $y 20e siecle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378892 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 7 $a Bohemianism $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00835564 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a exhibition catalogs. $2 aat $0 (CStmoGRI)aatgf300026096 655 7 $a History $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 655 7 $a Pictorial works $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01423874 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Catalogues d'exposition. $2 rvmgf $0 (CaQQLa)RVMGF-000001063 700 1 $a Ferguson, Russell, $e writer of added commentary. $e writer of added commentary. 700 1 $a Goossen, Ivana, $d 1972- $e writer of foreword. 700 1 $a Havranek, Christelle, $d 1971- $e writer of foreword. 710 2 $a Studio Najbrt, $e designer. 710 2 $a Kunsthalle Praha, $e host institution. $e issuing body, $e host institution. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20240517010902.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=D2CB94C4141211EF8F56A7732FECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
